Persian Grooming & Bathing Guide
One of the questions we hear most often from our families is, “What do you use to keep your Persians looking and smelling so good?”
After nearly four decades of raising Persians, we have tried a LOT of grooming products! Over the years, we have learned that you don’t need a cabinet overflowing with products—you just need good ones, the right tools, and a consistent grooming routine.
We currently use and recommend Bio-Groom products for our cats and kittens. We love how clean, soft, fluffy, and fresh their coats feel after a bath, and we are excited to offer our families a special discount!

Our Persian Grooming Essentials
A Good Quality Shampoo
A quality shampoo makes a huge difference with a Persian coat. Persian hair is fine, dense, and prone to tangling, so we prefer professional-quality grooming products that clean the coat thoroughly without leaving it feeling heavy or coated.
Always rinse extremely well. Shampoo or conditioner left behind in the coat can cause irritation and make the hair feel greasy or tangle more easily.
A Stainless Steel Comb

If you own a Persian, a good stainless steel comb should be one of your most-used grooming tools.
We prefer steel combs because they allow you to work all the way through the coat instead of simply brushing across the surface. Pay extra attention to the areas that tend to tangle first:
• Behind and underneath the ears
• Under the front legs
• Chest and bib
• Belly
• Inside and behind the back legs
• Around the rear and base of the tail
A quick comb-through regularly is much easier on both you and your Persian than trying to remove mats after they have already formed.
The Most Important Tip: Get Them 100% Dry!

This is one of the most important Persian grooming tips we can give you:
Never leave your Persian damp after a bath.
A Persian needs to be completely—100%—dry all the way down to the skin.
Their thick, dense coat can feel dry on the outside while still holding moisture underneath. Letting that dense coat air-dry or stay damp can encourage the hair to clump together and quickly lead to tangles and mats.
We recommend thoroughly drying the coat while gently combing through it as you go. Don’t forget areas such as underneath the legs, belly, chest, and behind the ears.
If you think they’re dry, check again! 😊
Start Grooming Young
One of the best things you can do is make grooming a normal part of your kitten’s life from the beginning.
We introduce our kittens to regular handling and grooming while they are with us. Once your kitten comes home, continue that routine. Even when they don’t actually need much grooming, spend a few minutes gently combing them, touching their paws, looking at their ears, and handling their face.
Keep sessions short, gentle, and positive.
Grooming shouldn’t become something that only happens when there is a problem. When it is simply part of everyday life, most Persians learn to accept—and many even enjoy—the extra attention.
Don’t Forget the Face & Eyes
Those beautiful Persian faces need a little extra attention too!
Persians can naturally have watery eyes, so gently cleaning around the eyes as needed helps prevent buildup and keeps that beautiful little face looking fresh.
We like products specifically formulated for safe facial and eye-area care. Never use harsh soaps or human products around your kitten’s eyes.
Keeping the facial hair clean and dry is just as important as cleaning it.
Nail Care
Get your kitten accustomed to having their paws handled from an early age. Regular nail trims are much easier when your Persian considers paw handling a normal part of life.
Take your time and only trim the pointed tip of the nail, avoiding the quick.
A Little Grooming Goes a Long Way
The secret to keeping a Persian beautiful isn’t waiting until they need a major grooming session.
It’s consistency.
A few minutes spent combing and checking the coat regularly can prevent most problems before they ever begin. It also gives you an opportunity to notice changes in your cat’s skin, coat, ears, eyes, nails, or overall condition.
And, of course, grooming can become wonderful one-on-one time between you and your Persian.
They get to be pampered…and let’s face it, most Persians believe being pampered is exactly how life is supposed to work. 💕🐾
